Richard Bowes
Jeffrey Ford

This evening will not be easily forgotten.  One of my all around personal favorites because two of my favorite authors got to read.  Richard Bowes started us off with “Venues,” a story about a spec fic writer giving readings at various spots around New York.  It was the perfect story for the crowd.  It’s coming out soon in F&SF.

And Jeffrey Ford read a story, “Polka Dots and Moonbeams,” a surreal and strange and wonderful period piece he said was trying to evoke the feel of the old black and whites. (It did, and then some.)  In the story, he Tuckerized Robert Killheffer, the winner of such in last year’s KGB Raffle.  The story is coming out soon in Stories, an anthology edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio.

All in all, it was a wonderful night.

Michael Shea N.K. Jemisin

This Wednesday we were entertained by two very talented authors.  Michael Shea read a selection about a very evil cat and N.K. Jemisin read a selection from her recently released novel, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.  The house was packed with fans.

Peter Straub Daryl Gregory

An all around horrifically wonderful night with Peter Straub & Daryl Gregory.  The house was packed, I tell you.  But those who attended got a great show.  Daryl read from The Devil’s Alphabet and Peter read from A Darker Matter.  Both excerpts were haunting and excellent.

David Anthony Durham Lev Grossman

This month’s reading was a double-whammy of fun.  David Anthony Durham read two poignant excerpts from his Acacia trilogy, and Lev Grossman read an engrossing piece from the Magicians universe.  Tiaras were worn.

Michael Cisco John Langan

Last night both Michael Cisco’s and John Langan’s stories creeped us out in an especially pleasing way. John read a selection from his forthcoming novel, House of Windows, and Michael read an excerpt from his story in Ellen Datlow’s Lovecraft Unbound.

Chris Genoa and Andrew Fox

Chris Genoa told an amusing story about a strung up turkey, and Andrew Fox told a tale of Elvis-like inebriation at Disneyland.  Ellen’s photos of the night can be seen here.

Kris Dikeman & Cat Rambo Jack Womack Samuel R. Delany

Another fab night at KGB in celebration of Clarion West and the Amazon Challenge Grant.  Rajan Khanna guest hosted the evening, reading testimonials of former Clarion students between readings by Kris Dikeman, Cat Rambo, Jack Womack and Samuel R. Delany. The bar was filled to the brim.  People were sitting on the stairs outside the hallway, eager to hear.  The energy was palpable in the air.  An electric night, by far.

Here’s Ellen’s pics.

And here’s a link to mine.
