The room was full, the crowd tense with anticipation for the night’s readers. You wouldn’t know it, but when Ennis Drake read “The Butcher, The Baker, The Candlestick Maker” from Tales of Jack the Ripper, it was his very first time reading to an audience. Joe Hill followed, reading from The Fireman (a work in progress) and a section from NOS4A2. Both men killed, pun intentional.
